| SMART Time
SMART Time is an electronic attendance record-keeping device
designed to take advantage of the latest in computer technology. Students log
in and log out through use of an external scanning device (the same device in
use in many commercial businesses) that sends the record direct to the computer
thereby removing duplication of effort and interfacing between the school
record database in SMART and an external attendance database. When the student
card is scanned, the system records the time as a login if the student is not
already in or a log-out if the student is logged in. The remainder of
attendance keeping is performed in the program.
Rules.
The process of setting up the clock includes rules that will tell the system
just what rules the school has with regard to time of clocking in, how many
minutes a student can be late and still get attendance credit, whether the
school rounds time to the nearest quarter or half hour. If attendance records
need to be kept in minutes, the SMART system can take care of this. Automatic
deductions for lunch and breaks can be included in setup. Students who forget
to clock in or out can be edited before any attendance credit is given. Editing
of records can be performed each day thereby giving the SMART System the
ability to tell a student the total hours completed as of the end of the
previous day.
Posting Attendance.
Attendance is posted to all active student records automatically once an
attendance period’s records have been reviewed and accepted by the program.
Those entries that do not pass the school rules can be manually edited and all
records are then automatically posted to individual students file. This greatly
reduces the number of staff hours needed to produce required reports.
Time Cards.
Student timecards are easily produced with the SMART Time software on your
computer and printer. Bar codes can be printed on Avery 5160 label stock and
applied to any appropriate plastic card. Replacements can be provided in
minutes. There are also available more elaborate student ID cards.
Credit Hour School Attendance.
SMART works with the credit our version in a slightly different manner. SMART
Time will record attendance to produce a documented record in a variety of
formats to enable schools to remain in compliance with the modified
requirements of a credit hour curriculum.
Integration with SMART.
SMART Time software integrates with the SMART database thus permitting use of a
single active student register. Students who withdraw or graduate are quickly
changed to inactive while new students are added. No student attendance records
are deleted. This permits recall of any record when needed.
